Evergreen Hooked Elements
Have it be cookie-based so that Hooked Elements are dependent on the visitor, not the time. So that they expired based on the visitor. For example count-downs that appear based on a trigger – a visit on a page or an special email link – and expire after a time (3 days example) or expire based on another trigger (visiting a link/page, purchasing).

Not necessarily just countdowns, but any hooked elements – like a banner or a special offer link or text with secret coupon or something.
A note with this, you can do this using the countdown block as a “container” to hold other content. This allows you to build a hooked element that uses the evergreen engine in the countdown block, and since it’s the container once it’s hidden there would be nothing in the element to show. Check the countdown block settings for hiding the countdown.
