mini cart and search bar

Hello,
This is my first time using WordPress and I am having issues customizing the theme. The two challenges I am currently facing:
1. I changed the background for the primary & secondary menu to black and mini cart icon is black.. How can I change it to white?
2. The search bar on the top bar is too wide..
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!
