How to put meta tags in Virtue head

I have been trying for a couple days to put a meta tag on my home page. It is “google apps for work”. I have tried using a plugin without much success. I have the tag:
<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”blahblahblahandsoforth” /> I just can’t get it in there. There must be a simple way to manually add this tag. Don’t know much PHP. Thanks
