Mobile menu icon not displaying

In your themes, when you go to your page on a mobile device, it shows the word MENU with the icon for menu. and its below the header. I have tried various methods and can’t get the same result for my client. We are getting japanese/chinese character directly to the right of the header. I am using “Use simple mobile header?” Y and if I don’t, I get a very small logo.
