Two blog panels on a page?

My site (www.capad.org.au) is developing the need for two blog panels on the home page: one for quickly-changing posts (breaking news) and one for posts that change slowly (workshop notifications, etc).
Is it possible to have two panels on a page, preferably side-by-side, each displaying different categories of post?
