Woo sorting

after long struggle i have the product sorting in a widget aligned with the filters under the header.
I found how to hide the “old” sorting:
.col-md-6 .woocommerce-ordering {
display:none;
but i think the “new” sorting is somehow conflicting with the old: the “new” sorting is correct, but after the sorting is done and the page reloads with the sorted items, SORT BY POPULARITY remains highlighted and can’t be chosen again – only after reloading the page.
Is there a more effective way to disable the functionality of the “old” sorting, not just hiding it ?
