Code in functions.php does not work

Hello,

I run a blog with a WordPress in German about my work as a photographer. You can find it at *Login to see link

As a beginner in WordPress I got the German book “WordPress 4 – the comprehensive manual” from the publisher Rheinwerk.

The author has written a lot of interesting code lines for advanced features that can be downloaded as a .php file from the publisher’s website. These code lines should be inserted into the functions.php. I did that too.

Since then I have, for example, an antispambot, the mail addresses in the posts and also in the footer encrypts. Also Twitteraccounts are now connected automatically, with only one search result the post is opened automatically and the WP version without plugin removed from source code.

All functions, which I missed and gladly that I could integrate these so easily into the code of the functions.php (I have not so much idea of ​​the programming, I am the type user).

Now there are other functions, which I would like to integrate. I have also inserted by copy and paste. But I do not see the result.

It is about the fact that I prefer to let the previous and next contribution title instead of “previous post” and “next post”. I would rather pass the author page to the About-me-Page (*Login to see link the first paragraph of each contribution should be bold and the contribution picture should be added to the RSS feed.

Can it be that I have yet another .php file in the editor must adjust? How can I implement these functions?
