featured image missing

I’m really not sure if this is theme related but I’m almost sure it is. I was following along in a tutorial and he states click on featured image and this option isn’t show up on my page I’ve reloaded it multiple times. Signed out and back in and looked in just about every menu to see if there is a way to display it.
I found this on another forum but figured if it was theme related I should come here and ask before modifying it.
everyone says function.php file and look for the featured image code but what in the world is supposed to be “Missing” ???? I found this code on another page can anyone tell me if this will work and where to place it in my file. I’m using the virtue theme pro and woocommerce cart

also can someone help me with adjusting the height/width font style color etc of the home page layout icon menu items
