"Nested" Portfolios

I’m trying to create a ‘nested’ portfolio and I have a couple ideas on how to accomplish it, but was wondering if anyone has created something similar and has a more efficient/easier way to do it…
See this link for the flow I’m looking for.
With the link above as a visual aid, I’m going to try and explain it.
1) At the top level I’d like to have a 4 “box” portfolio page, each one of those 4 image boxes links out to another page with 4 image boxes
2) On the second level, each of those boxes would link out to an sample (a pdf, jpeg, gif etc. etc.)
Any help/guidance on how to do this the easiest way would be really appreciated.
