PHP snippet displays at top of portfolio page

I’m trying to build a page that queries a custom db table using the wpdb class, prints results in an HTML table, and then displays the HTML table inside a tab located within a Portfolio page. I’m currently using a plugin called XYZ PHP Code Snippets, which works, but the HTML table appears at the top of the text column instead of embedded within a tab.

I’ve tried several other php plugins without success (though since my site uses the XYZ PHP Code snippets on production pages, I haven’t tested the others with XYZ disabled). They can’t parse the code which works in XYZ and on a template page.

Anyway, I have set up a child theme, and would be willing to code this on a template page. However, portfolio pages don’t give you the option of selecting a custom template page, so I’m stuck there.

Any ideas?
