Shortly after upgrading from the free theme to the premium theme I noticed my shared host site often getting very sluggish and failing to properly serve the pages, they would sometimes be half drawn and missing elements. Investigating in cPanel it seems that the CPU and open processes are often maxing out resulting in it being clamped by cPanel so that the page loads fail.
Researching the issue I came across suggestions to turn off file checking and backups in iThemes Security plugin. I did that, but then I noticed it spiking again and gagging the site. It’s weird because it’s not all the time. Most of the time the site is pretty snappy, but then once in a while something goes into overdrive and maxes out the CPU resulting in failed page loads.
I installed the P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) plugin (which is pretty cool BTW). It showed that much of the page load time was being eaten up by all the new slider plugins and page builder, which I thought was strange because though I had activated them when installing the theme, I wasn’t using any of the new sliders yet or the page builder. I don’t know if those are what are causing the periodic CPU max load or not but I’ve turned them all off for now and will post further results as I continue to investigate to see if it continues to periodically max out.
Has anyone else run into such max CPU use on a shared host?
