Haveing Footer WIDGETS background color different than footer color?

Is there a setting or CSS to have the footer widgets be a different color than the actual footer’s color.
My case we have the top bar a green and would like the footer to be green as well. However the 3 widgets ( in my case) above the footer I would like to be gray.
I do realize I can just create a 3 column Page Builder and put it at the bottom of each page but…. 🙂
