Products not fiting into rows

In many categories, tags, catalog or filtered pages, there are “roles” in the rows, meaning that some rows have less than 4 products so does their subsequent roles.
I tested different settings on Theme Options -> Store Settings , but the issue persists. I suspect the major problem is that images have different sizes, but that would be a problem hard to workaround since this store have many many products from a wide range of different distributors, who ultimately are the ones who provide the pics.
Any insights would be usefull.
