Does the galley load the full size images?

Hello, im working in this gallery:

And I noticed by using the “inspect element” feature of the navigator (Opera) that the page loads the full size images instead of the thumbnails, making the website very heavy, I mean, the “network” tab in “inspect element” feature shows me the weight of all full size images after I refresh using CTRL+F5.

My question is: shouldn’t the page or gallery load the thumbnails and then only load the full size images on demand? to make the page lighter?
