Homepage Featured Item Slider Not Showing Items

Home Featured Items slider is not showing any featured items.
New site set up earlier this week on 4.0.4. I updated everything (4.7.3 + WC 3.0 + Virtue 4.0.8) and still have the issue.
Woo featured item shortcode works fine. I tried deleting the site/db, completely reinstalling WP+Woo+Virtue, added a single featured item. Same problem with both Virtue and Pinnacle. The “On Sale Products” home slider works fine.
Set up a 2nd brand new site from scratch to test and confirm same issue.
Older sites that have been updated to 4.7.3 + WC 3.0 + Virtue 4.0.8 do NOT have the issue for me. Seems to be limited to sites originally built on version 4.0.4.
