CSS for mobile view hover previous next carousel

I’ve tried to target the previous and next carousel arrow in hover state with the following css but it doesn’t work. Please advise.
.next_carousel li >a:hover, .prev_carousel li >a:hover {
font-size: 10px !important;
}
