Product Variations in Woocommerce

I use virtue premium (3.9.6) with woocommerce to sell books that may be in paper or digital form (woocommerce product variations). The digital books are stamed by pdfstamper before download.
Since an upgrade to woocommerce 3.0.4 any effort to show the product variations through the products function of the dashboard causes a hang, while my customers report that they are receiving empty download files.
In examining the the site further I see Your theme (Virtue – Premium) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce. You can see which files are affected from the system status page. If in doubt, check with the author of the theme reported on the dashboard.
Can anyone shed light on what goes on?
