Image resizing in posts

Hi there, I am trying to post a series of images in a blog. Normally when I resize the image by going to edit/ customise size and alter the width of all images to the same width. This will resize the width equally. However lately this has been inconsistent on my blog and all my pictures are different widths, so it looks sloppy.
Today I carefully resized all my images before importing them into wordpress so they were exactly the same width, then changed it using custom size. But again they are inconsistent widths in a draft post.
