Virtue theme update documentation

Hi, I just upgrade my theme from 1.7.3 to 1.7.6.

I think I’ve made a mistake or the documentation is not up to date:

Update Your Theme Via WordPress

Step 1 – You need to deactivate the current Virtue Premium theme in the appearance > themes section by simply activating a different theme. Once you activate a different theme, you can delete the Virtue Premium theme.
(Don’t worry; your content will not be lost.)
Step 2 – Simply upload the “virtue_premium_vx_x_x” file in the “appearance > themes” section. Click on the “Install Themes” tab at the top and choose to upload the zip file.
Step 3 – Once it uploads, choose to activate it. You’re done!

I delete my previous Virtue theme in step 1.
When I complete all steps, I’ve lost my main settings and home layout.

Updating theme via FTP isn’t a better way in order to keep customization?
