Premium theme takes 8s longer to load than basic wordpress

Hi,
We have installed a premium Virtue theme over an existing basic WordPress theme and the speed has extremely declined. The wordpress theme takes about 1s and the Virtue theme doesn’t start loading according to the google speed test for 7 seconds.
Someone mentioned gettext as a possible cause, but I have no idea where to disable it or what to look for.
