Virtue premium vs Ascend premium in performance

Hi guys,
I am currently using Virtue premium theme for a client which requires performance as the priority of their website. Virtue premium seems to be really fast and suitable, however I have noticed the Ascend theme has many more features and would make it easier to design without too much CSS. I am a bit torn on whether I should switch themes.
How would you as the developers compare the performance of the 2 themes? Is virtue quicker and more responsive? or would you recommend I go with Ascend?
