What is the purpose/complement of the portfolio related to the Shop? I assume all the Shop children are there for the purpose of choosing a preferred layout, right?

Just trying to figure out how the portfolio page works to have one image per category with a link to a full portfolio or shop page of that category (maybe even create children under Portfolio for each media/product category. Possibly the same on homepage.

What is odd about the homepage is there are portfolio images there (portfolio template there), latest posts, featured products per checking “Homepage Layout Manager”. Yet when I go into homepage to edit, a portfolio widget isn’t there, nor is the latest posts or featured products; just info boxes and testimonial widget boxes. What am I missing here? Any ideas?
