Kadence Slider plugin doesn't update / activate

I’m running Virtue Premium 4.7.2 on WordPress 4.9.8 and I’ve tried to install the Kadence Slider plugin with no success for the past couple of days. The install process (from both the Install Bundled Plugins page on my site as well as the downloaded v2.2.7 zip file from KadenceThemes.com) seems to initially go well and each time I try it I get a message that says “Plugin installed successfully.” I then go to the Install Bundled Plugins page and under “Kadence Slider” there is a link named “Update”. Looking to the right on that row, the Installed Version = 2.2.5, the Minimum Required and Available versions = 2.2.7 and under Status there is a message that says “Installed But Not Activated, Requires Update”. I click update and I get a message that says “Plugin updated successfully”, but when I go back to the Install Bundled Plugins page, the plugin version is still 2.2.5. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed in as many ways as I possibly can, but to no avail. What do I need to do in order to successfully activate the Kadence Slider plugin?
