Update Crashed the site

I came in on a mess. The WordPress core and Virtue Them hadn’t been updated for years. First off I could find no way to update the WordPress core. I deactivated all the plugins hoping the link for updating the core would appear. It didn’t so I attempted to upgrade Virtue and it seemed to be OK but when I visited the site all I saw was this error message. Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_embed() in /home4/jsw313wp/public_html/wp-content/themes/virtue_premium/lib/utils.php on line 42
First I would like to get the site back up, then I would like to update to the latest version of WordPress, Can youn help. The site is at *Login to see link
