Ascend Gallery Remove zoom “icon”

Hello,
I tried to find a css for removing the zoom icon that appears in the Ascend gallery view. I like the zoom animation, but how can I disable the icon effect?
Is there a reason why all images are 1:1, can they be in other size as well?
