how can I only show ‘child categories’ from the current category?

I wanted to use the option within Theme Options > Shop Settings “Show Category Filter on Category Pages. This adds a dynamic filter to Category pages. NOTE this filter is only designed to filter what is visible on the page. It does not act as a menu and query products from multiple pages.”
This looks great but how can I only show ‘child categories’ from the current category, and not ‘grandchildren categories’?
