Thumbnail Slider Layout Shift issue

Out of the box, the slider/carousel seems to render all images stacked; is there a patch to fix this Cumulative Layout Shift Issue?
I have tried about five different CSS hacks to only display the first slide until the slider is initialized, but all fail to resolve the issue.
Does anyone have a solution for this pending an official patch to the core plugin css?
