“add/edit gallery” by “insert from URL” not working with Ascend Theme.

When using the Ascend Theme, creating a portfolio item, under “portfolio options”, when trying to “add/edit gallery” by “insert from URL”, something is wrong. Once you enter the external URL, the image shows up, add alternative text and caption, then click “insert into post” and nothing happens. Nothing is inserted into post.
Now, if you click “create gallery” and choose media from the “Media Library” tab, everything works correctly.
What would cause the problem?
