Creating Square Thumbnails for Blog Posts

Hi Ben,

I’ve tried doing this several ways, but have had no luck creating a list of blog posts with square thumbnails. Here’s the home page:

I created larger versions of the image files (360px wide), I’ve turned Jetpack photon off. I’ve tried using the simple “latest posts” for the home page, and tried also creating a home page with page builder and using the carousel to serve the blog posts. I can’t figure out why the posts keep coming out at their original aspect ratio and not square. I have changed so many options that I think unfortunately I’ve just muddled myself. 🙂 I’ve read many different threads here, and still can’t figure it out.

What’s the bullet proof way to get nice square images for blog posts without having to create square featured images?
