portfolio slug change, permalink resave not working

how do you resave permalinks? I’ve changed my portfolio slug to “releases” and the permalinks for each portfolio item has already changed to reflect “/releases/…” instead of “portfolio/…” – I saw the note about if you change the slug you have to resave permalinks. when i go into each individual portfolio item and click the permalink edit button, it allows me to change the permalink portion after the releases/ slug but something is not working, because when i go to test this from my portfolio grid page, it’s still claiming 404 not found, although the link matches what I’ve saved. What am I doing wrong here?
