Portfolio Inconsistencies

I’m really confused.

I’m trying to build a project page for my site that creates a sortable portfolio grid for company projects.

The header text looks funky though, and there are visible outlines around each category. Regardless of the portfolio plugin I use it looks the same. I’ve turned off all plugins, updated the permalinks and removed all the custom CSS to see if any of that helped, but nope.

It seems like there’s some sort of conflict or bug but I can’t figure it out. The portfolio plugin that comes with virtue premium, Virtue / Pinnacle ToolKit, is outdated and says it’s compatible up to wordpress 4.1.3, so maybe that’s an issue here also? I’m using a 3rd party portfolio plugin just to get the portfolio option in the dashboard to reveal itself.

Thanks in advance for any help or for trying.
