Site icons not displaying for some users

Hi there,
I’m trying to find a decent answer to pass on to my coworkers who have reported that sometimes icons are not displaying for them on their home computers. I wasn’t sure how the icons were created (css, unicode, etc), but I’m pretty sure it’s not a problem with the theme, but their computer. Could you confirm if my suspicions are correct?
