icon menu color change

Hi,
two questions:
1.) please let me know the image format (jpg, tif, gif, …) is needed in order that the icon menu changes the color from black to white automatically or what other arguments are needed (black / grey / …). I tried png (color / grey) and gif. the color is always black. no color change when hovered.
2.) I want to use the premium theme for two additional websites. Is there a package price for that? Or do I need to buy single licenses?
