Custom css for footer background image

Could you provide me with Custom CSS to add a background to my footer. The Theme Options > Advanced Styling section doesn’t seem to be doing it. Also, I am attempting to change the footer font color to white by using the following ‘.footerclass {
font-color: #ffffff;’, but it does not seem to be taking effect. What would be overriding that setting? Thank you in advance.
