background of home page full screen

hello,
i am building a photography site, and i would like my home page to be a collage of photographs. i would like the photos to scroll, while having the background stay stationary. i cant quite figure out how to do this though.. do you have any recommendations on how i should approach this?

i want the images to come all the way up into the header, and i also want a transparent background on that row so that the main body background will show thru..
