Visual control over gallery types

Hello,

I’m running a multi-author blog written by children, hence they mostly use the ‘visual’ editing mode to produce posts. I personally like being able to tweak the aspect of the wordpress built-in galleries, by modifying the short code as explained here.
Yet this is a bit too complicated for my writers (they are children AND french).

I would love if you could implement a visual way of modifying the gallery aspect; there’s already kind of a ‘menu’ in the ‘modify gallery’ page .. Wouldn’t it be possible to include a list of options to customize the aspect of the gallery with the same parameter you can hook to the short code?
