Menu Readability

With the alternating slider photos, the main menu text can get lost in the background. I was wondering if there is a way to put some kind of transparent grey bar behind the menu items like i have in my call to action widget as displayed on my home page. I am open to any solution that makes the menu more readable. My live site is http://www.avela.com
