change social media icon colors

I would like to display the social media icons (with the widget) and have the color set to #fff but have the background colors the default colors (ie facebook blue, rss orange, twitter light blue…) with an opacity of 50% or so so they look dull. Then on rollover, have the full color displayed. Currently the rollover works out-of-the-box, but I cannot figure out how to display the icons with their default color.
