Slow and settings dissapearing

This afternoon I clicked onto my website to edit a few little bits and before I could do much everything went wrong much to my confusion.
Loads of weird things keep happening and the site has gone really slow. The first thing I noticed was on moving one item from the ‘enabled’ to ‘disabled’ column on the active layout manager and saving the action that everything seemed to jump into the disabled column and lots of my settings on the home layout page reverted back to default too.
In the end I had to reset the entire section as the ‘enabled’ column disappeared completely.
I’m really at a loss on what has happened and just frustrated that I don’t have a back up so I need to almost start again.
Can you also tell me how to change the colour of the top bar from the original blue to white again.
