portofolio alt style

In the demo i have a menu item portofolio alt style.
I really like it but how can i make my own kind of page of this style?
also when i edit the page i can select different portofolio categories but i only can select 1 or all.
i whant 2 choose 4 from the 8 categories. i tried it with a mother child categorie but doesnt seem 2 work
