JPEG compression level for WordPress and Theme

Hi Ben/Hannah,
Greetings. Just to check one thing. Encounter one blog which states that “WordPress automatically compresses JPEG images to 90% of their original size”.

and to avoid the compression, i.e to upload 100% image quality for wordpress, it is suggested to add this function in the theme’s function.php.
“add_filter( ‘jpeg_quality’, create_function( ”, ‘return 100;’ ) );”
Is this same with our themes also. Kindly suggest.
