How to limit the number of pages in the pager

Hi,
At the end of the blog pages, appear the frames of pager with their numbers. May I have control of how many number of pages to show?
For instance, I would like to show just five and the “next” and “previous” symbols. Is it possible?
By the way… (I think this second question should be asked into another thread, but…) Can I avoid to see the white line under the footer base? It happens even in last version of FireFox not in Safari. Is it a browser matter? or can I leave exactly sticked the footer base at the end of the sreen?
