Mini cart/center logo and product category question

Hey,

I have two questions:

1. Is it not possible to have the mini cart and search in the main navigation if you use the center logo header?
2. I know you can set the shop and category pages to show categiries/subcategories instead of products. Is it possible to customize the look of this? For example, I would love to have my category pages show the subcategories similar to the “split content” widget, meaning that you have a picture of the subcategory on one side, and then a desciption of the subcategory beside.
