I just noticed now my home page didnt seem to have updated with the changes I made in Theme options but my other pages seem to have applied it.

Hi, I am trying to create a child theme, I’m not much of a coder so I tried the Child Page Configurator Plugin, but this does not work.

I have also uploaded a virtue child theme zip file to my pc, but have no idea where to put this or how to import.

Is there a plugin that works? or is there a simple tutorial anywhere about how to do this?

I an building a website and thought I would try the page builder and it seems to look great.
However, I noticed that in two columns and using the text widget on the left side to house text only with no links at all. The right side is also text widget with an image with a link to another website completely.
Why is my text side developing a link the same as the right side, even the heading has a link. Also when I click on text or visual, there is nothing there.

Is this just an easy fix?

I have another question when you get a minute. I used Affiliate links on my previous html pages. putting the link code in those pages was pretty easy. I seem to be having trouble to get them to show. Mostly they are javascript. how do I make them work in the page builder.

I was watching the page builder tutorial. During that tutorial they used a visual editor that was a widget. Black Studio TinyMCE Widget. I installed the plugin. When I look at screen shots on the plugin site, they are different than what I am getting when I use the widget. It looks as if there are more options available in the screen shot.

Also, Is Virtue Premium compatible with the latest wordpress? 3.9.1

Hi Ben, I installed the latest theme update on 6/8/14 and noticed that my site (*Login to see link ) has changed quite a bit with the theme update. I attempted a few things but I could not easily fix these problems and I wanted to reach out to you before completely changing my site too much.

Here are some of the issues I’ve found after the update:
1) -Primary menu is much further down the page. I decreased the logo spacing in the theme options panel but it did nothing to alleviate the issue.

2) -Homepage blog widget not showing. I have the Latest Blog Posts enabled on the homepage after the page content but this widget is not showing up. I tried to disable and re-enable this but this did not work.

3) -Footer widgets not displaying in their correct footer column. I have the footer style set to three columns and various widgets in each column. It looks like the widgets are all piled into a single footer. I’ve tried to change the footer style and then change it back to 3 columns but this did not work.

4) – No blog posts are displaying as previews. When you go to the blog section (*Login to see link none of the blog posts appear, but you can click on the background and you go to the appropriate blog post.

5) – Primary sidebar displays at the bottom of the page as full page content.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for fixes on this. Or if this is a larger issue with the update can you please advise on how I can backout the latest update so my site can display how it was prior to the update.

Hi Ben

Yep, that makes sense (and the styling CSS works so thanks for that!). And I was so busy looking at the LHS of the page, I hadn’t even noticed the sidebar positioning! Must be a tad too much obsessive compulsive tonight!

I think I’ll see if the client (my wife!) agrees and will code/design accordingly 🙂

Hey,
The page and the post are (in my option, and per the design of this theme) supposed to look different. They serve different functions so I didn’t create the page to have the same type of title as the post.

In light of that you will notice that your page has the title above the sidebar not beside it like the post.

I you wanted to give a semi transparent background in the box around all the content but don’t want the box layout style to run into the header and footer. I would add this css:

#content, #pageheader > .container {
background: rgba(202,189,180,0.3);
}

Hi Ben – I’ve tied myself in knots!

I did a ‘proof of concept’ styling on a basic post a few days ago – see the semi-transparent background behind the complete post entry and sidebar here:

I basically hung my styling on the ‘single-article’ class on the div which also has the class reference of ‘row’.

Then I thought I would replicate this on a basic page:

It had the same div but this time only referenced by ‘row’. Adding the same ‘single-article’ class into the ‘row’ div in what I thought were ‘likely suspect’ template files (into a child theme) didn’t produce the required styling.

First problem was that you use the Roots framework, so tracking down the right template file is not quite as straightforward as usual. But I am sure I could have mastered that for a few minor edits.

More of a problem was comparing the page source of a basic post with that of a basic page. I did what I usually do and constructed a basic div skeleton chart. And the structure of the content zone is totally different. The H1 tag is within the ‘row’ div in the post and outside it (within its own div structure) in the page. And clicking between the post and page does indeed show some differences in the positions of the heading and the start of the body text.

So can I ask which of the two structures is the intended one and thus safer to style to? I’ll probably edit the ‘wrong’ template files to match the ‘right’ ones.

I can email you my single page PDF chart if it helps.

Yes you can make the blog page show the full post: http://docs.kadencethemes.com/virtue/#blogpage

It’s in the page settings. And just a note you have to make sure you have not selected a page to be you “latest posts page” in the wordpress settings > reading. That will override any page template.

AS for your permalinks you have use pretty permalinks if you just select the post title options.

Hi there, thanks for your help! The links work fine since I switched everything back to default. Now the only issue is that the blog entries on the archive page are still collapsed (meaning that you have to click “read more” to see the entire post), is there any way to change the settings so that the entire post is displayed?

Hey I tested and don’t have this issue so I’m guessing it’s another plugin conflicting somehow with virtue and pagebuilder. If you change the temp user you sent to an admin I will be able to look and see.

You can hide the tesimonial icon with this css:

.testimonialimg {
display: none;
}

and you can choose a group in the page settings of a testimonial page. The will make it so it only shows one group.

The “read more” link on the latest blog posts on the homepage are linking to the wrong page (the contact page). I deleted all the pages in the menu and re-made them and still got the same result. Any ideas on how I can correct the link?
