API License Activation not working?

Hi hoping you can help, I’ve just purchased the premium package and installed the theme on my WordPress site but When I try to activate the license I get the following message….”Connection failed to the License Key API server. Make sure your host servers php version has the curl module installed and enabled.”
I can see from other customers that plenty have had the same problem but there seem to be many different reasons for it and solutions. I am not confident at attempting some of what I have read and was rather hoping you could help me diagnose and fix the problem as I am quite overwhelmed by it all. Happy to pitch in and try out suggestions and can usually get there with good advice to follow.
