I have custom CSS to change the color of a menu item for current page. How can I make that work for child pages?

I guess these aren’t technically child pages though. They’re the pages generated by a plugin. The plugin requires me to put a shortcode on a page to display categories. that page is in my menu. I want that menu item to be highlighted when people click on pages from the categories.

Sorry I am not explaining this well.
