Content flush with header (no top-margin) – css breaks header

On the home page I want the background image (photo) to be flush with the header. That is to say the top margin showing the parchment background does not show.
.contentclass {
padding-top: 0;}
breaks the home page section. Everything shoves to the left.
Not sure how to make that happen.
