Display blog posts summary in Landscape mode

I have set “Blog Post Summary Default” to “landscape image” so “Latest Blog Posts” on Home page will have text on the right of images for blog post summaries on the Home page and for some reason I always get the text below the picture.
The image are very close to a 1:1 aspect ratio, is this causing then to always display in Portrait mode where summary text is on below the image.
This just seems I am missing some simple setting.
Also is there a full list of short codes somewhere other than the ones in the drop down menu on the edit screen.
