display product categories without thumbnails

Hello,
I would like to use the following shortcode on my homepage:
[product_categories number=”12″ parent=”0″]
But I only want to show the name of the categories WITHOUT the thumbnail.
I don’t have thumbnails for all my categories so I prefer NOT to display them.
I tried to use an transparent gif size 1×1 but your theme still adds an empty frame of size 300×222 around it.
