Enabling *square* image ratio on Search Results Images (Ascend Premium, “Grid”)

Hi all-

I’m working on yet another product, once again using Ascend Premium as base theme (love it!).

My client has raised a question – and I ideally need some guidance in order to make it work.

They have a mix of different image *ratios* on their “Featured Images” for Pages (fine, no issues).

However.. on Search Results it looks to me like a *set* ratio is used? (as they have some cut-out, *square* Feature Images in place – but they are being cropped (on Search Results) – resulting in less than desirable results.

*IDEALLY* I’d like the Search Results thumbnail images to *preserve and use whatever the source (featured) Image’s ratio is*

(I’m using the “Grid” layout option for Search Results by the way, which is otherwise also fine).

Can someone advise how this could be achieved?

Another alternative (if the above awkward or not feasible) would be for ALL Results images instead to be square. However, this is less desirable, as the other images they have (which are not square) may then in turn also also up looking odd / not ideal.
